Great track from Hill Rd(by junk yard at top of big hill enroute to Dorchester) to second Westcock and on to field overlooking Dorchester Cape. Incredible views, especially on a sunny Friday afternoon. No machines so far but it is Friday night. Get out early before the new snow and enjoy a great run.

Blue trail broken around Yellow, to Drop Off Ridge and Roddy's cabin. Quite dippy in wet areas, especially where ski doos have previously traversed but snow in nice and there is a hint of spring in the air(what -24 degree windchill!). Rumours there may be good snow off the Hill Rd-will update plus tard.

I found this online today, might explain why we get ski fever:

Evidence Of 'Rain-making' Bacteria Discovered In Atmosphere And Snow
ScienceDaily (Feb. 29, 2008) — Brent Christner, LSU professor of biological sciences, in partnership with colleagues in Montana and France, recently found evidence that rain-making bacteria are widely distributed in the atmosphere. These biological particles could factor heavily into the precipitation cycle, affecting climate, agricultural productivity and even global warming. Christner and his colleagues published their results on Feb 29 in the journal Science.

Ski doo trails great for skating. New snow has bonded with old and been churned up so adequate purchase and fair glide. You could also classic, preferably as always in the morning.

Evening ski plans for Monday, Februrary 25 have been cancelled due to trail conditions.

But, plan for Monday, March 3. If the trail conditions are acceptable, anyone who would like to do an evening ski is welcome to meet at Water Res. Gate at 7:30 pm. Wear a headlamp.

Great skiing on ski doo trails. Spent most of day on the far side of Mount View(access via Beech Hill Park Trails or Park at top of Mount View and follow ski doo or ski trail). Un machined snow is delightful. You can skate anywhere that's wide enough and even do a few telemark turns on the Blueberry hill.
A skidoo went down toward Doncaster Pond from the Access Rd-don't know whether it crossed our bridges or is still mired in the sink holes...

Tonight is an eclipse and a full moon. Is there any interest in ski skating up at Beech Hill on the meadow?, say, 9ish to 10:30?

Interested in an evening ski?
Frustrated because you have to work Monday and cannot ski during the day?

Sharon, a new ski member who has to work Monday to Friday, has suggested to me we should try meeting for an evening ski.

So, all are welcome, to come together for an evening ski, every Monday evening, weather permitting. Meet at 7:30 at the water reservoir. Bring a headlamp. Hopefully, some of our members who can ski during the day will post on the blog the ski conditions so we will know if it is a nice evening to ski. Our first ski is scheduled for Monday, February 25th and then every Monday after.

Tantramar Outdoor Club

So it seems that is our new name as a result of the vote at the potluck supper last night. After the ski season is over I'll look at creating a new website that covers all seasons, with an easy-to-remember web address.

Trail to cabin passable but a bit rutted and a few tricky areas to circumvent due to water holes. Feel free to make bridges! Crooked tree trail will be dry.

Ski Doo Trails groomed and soft enough in middle to skate/slippy still at edges. As you'd expect fairly fast.
